The village webcam brouhaha. 12-30-02 It seems as if there are some folks in Volcano who are not happy
with my plan for a webcam I can understand how it would bother some people. I would like to offer my sincere apology if I upset anyone with this webcam idea. I thought it would have been a lot of fun. I still think that. I built this web site with the hope of promoting the village and all it had to offer. I realize there are some people who do not want to see any changes in the village. Somewhat I concur. I first came here in Sept. of 82. This village was isolated, quiet, and untouched for the most part. No B&Bs to speak of. Only a couple places to eat a. I had pretty much decided that this was about the best place I had ever been. Then they built Cooper Center, Then the lodge was reopened, Then a B&B, then another, and another, A hardware store, A couple more restaurants, an ugly satellite tower and well you know how it goes. Personally, I would like it, back the way it was. I am sure there are some who have been here much longer than me who would like to see it back the way it was when they arrived here. Moreover, I would imagine there are some Hawaiians who would like to see it go back a lot further than that. But lets face the music. That is not gona happen. It is just not how we evolve as far as I see it. I certainly do not want to start a war in Volcano over a webcam. However, it has me curious, Just how many folks here really think this webcam idea REALLY SUCKS? In addition, if you do, would you abject if the camera were not aimed at a public spot? Such as we could have the camera aimed at Mauna Kea, Back down the road towards the upper store. We could web cam the parade with that angel. I'm sure that would go over like a ton of lava rocks. On the other hand, we set up an area where one would have to walk over to it, In order to be seen on the webcam. We could call it The Village People Webcam. Ha Ha! The point is, I'm trying to attract visitors to my web site. That
is my gig. I'm not cutting down trees, building houses or shipping rocks off the island.
I'm just doing this little nickel & dime web site. In the hopes of it making a little
income for my wife and I and promoting visitors to place I love dearly. Filled with
friends who have businesses and talents. So if my little web site can help some other
folks as well to make a couple of bucks, Great!!! Thats what small town are all
about. People helping out there neighbors. I want to put a webcam at Ola's store. I would like to do it in a
way that there are zero objections . or email volcano1@bigisland.com Send snail mail to Steve Young PO Box 172, Volcano Hawi'i 96785 |
