United States Public Law 103-150
The "Apology Resolution"
Passed by Congress and signed by President William J. Clinton
November 23, 1993
|
On January 16,
1893, over 160 American marines landed in peaceful Honolulu armed with Gatling gun,
Howitzer cannons, double cartridge belts filled with ammunition, carbines and other
instruments of war. The protest by Hawaii's Queen that such landing was a breach of treaty
and international law was simply ignored. The troops marched along the streets of
Honolulu, rifles facing the Queen's palace. |
Sunday we will have information available at
Cooper Center from Noon - 6pm about Hawaiian Issues.
We will also being showing a video of Francis Boyle's talk about the continuity of the
Hawaiian Kingdom and what we need to do to restore it according to international laws. |
In short! FACT: Hawai'i was a sovernt nation, The
US invaded and took over.
The US also admitted and apologized for its action.
Now the US wants to finish the takeover.
It is getting harder and harder to respect my country. We can not move forward until
we right the past.
What we did to the Hawaiians was wrong. What we continue to do to them today is just
as bad.
| In 1898, approximately 29,000
Hawaiians--more than half the adult Hawaiian population--signed and presented a petition
protesting annexation to the United States. Congress ignored them. Despite the petition
evidence to the contrary, it was far more lucrative for Congress to accept the assurances
of missionary lobbyists who claimed the Hawaiians were eager for annexation. |
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals in San Francisco yesterday ruled that the private, non-profit educational
institution Kamehameha Schools can no longer racially discriminate against students who
are not native Hawaiian who want to attend the school. |
Kamehameha Schools (KS) was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop,
greatgranddaughter and last royal descendant of Kamehameha the Great.
Kamehameha School for Boys was the first to be established in 1887 on what are now the
grounds of the Bishop Museum in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. A year later the
Preparatory Department, for boys six to twelve years of age, opened in adjacent
facilities. The School for Girls opened in 1894 on its own campus nearby |
